Evidently it does not matter what Governor Palin said about her prayers, what she says she meant, or what the tape shows she said about Iraq. . . .at least if you are writer at the Atlantic.
Instead a mainstream media magazine publishes a pundit who can say with impunity, “She is a long-time member of the Assemblies Of God. That’s all you need to know.”
If you are one of the millions of Pentecostals in the United States the Atlantic is willing to publish a person who simply stereotypes you and dismisses you from public life. He knows you and what you think based only on his ideas (ill informed) about your church.
This is shameful and sad to see in a great journal.
Voting for a candidate based on identity is wrong. Nobody should support Palin just because she is an Evangelical or was a Pentecostal. However, when one Christian is attacked, not for her politics or even her own views, but with stereotypes and generalizations (”all you need to know is . . . “), then all of us need to unite to condemn this bigotry.
It is dangerous talk in a free society.
