Ten Things We Have Learned About Palin

1. Palin is not Quayle.

Palin got the full media rush. That set her up to either fail like Quayle or to become a superstar. Quayle was treated unfairly, but he never gave a speech like Palin did tonight.

2. The media will overcompensate soon and give Palin a big hug.

The self-important mainstream media believes weathering its storm is a bigger accomplishment than being a mother or running a state. Palin took their best shot and won. Far from hating her, this will vindicate her in their eyes. She is the Real Thing now . . . as long as there are no other real problems found soon.

3. The Democratic Party cannot handle a smart Republican woman.

Senator Harry “Make Him Go Away” Reid called her shrill. Republicans should run to You-Tube with that commercial.

4. The camera loves Palin and she is a natural political talent.

She is the best Republican at working a hall since Reagan.

Period.

If this story is true, then she may be better than Obama:

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani’s speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.

Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.

5. Every Republican pol over fifty is in trouble.

Unless she blows up soon, Palin is the future of the party.

6. Palin is knowledgeable in the right areas.

She knows energy policy cold and this is the right year to be a wonk on energy.

7. Palin’s regional accent is a plus.

She can sound too Fargo, but with discipline simply sounds authentic and refreshing.

8. Palin is a fierce pit bull in lipstick (her words!) for McCain.

The traditional role of a Vice-Presidential candidate is to attack. She does it well.

9. She really likes John McCain.

Like all of rural America she is a sucker for the Armed Forces. She admires John McCain in an open and honest way. It makes me like John McCain which is hard to do.

His defense of her over the last few days has been his proudest political moment of the last few years. He likes her, believes in her, and hated seeing her maligned. Nothing makes John McCain madder than unfair political attacks. He stuck by her, was right, and now is reaping big rewards.

Thanks John. You had a primary of one for Veep. When pressed, Obama went for Joe (!) Biden. You found an amazing political talent.

10. America really likes her.

Democrats know what the focus groups said last night. It was very bad for them and great for Palin. Daily Kos bloggers have a tin ear for Palin types and will keep sneering. If they keep that up, Ohio, Michigan, and Colorado will be lost to Obama. He cannot afford to lose them.

Republicans know Senator Obama is a rare talent and have long acknowledged it. Heck, most of us really like him, but Democrats routinely underestimate “fly over” politicians. Somebody better ask Heath Schuler what his voters think of Palin . . . fast.

Leave Palin alone. Go after McCain.

We will see if Americans make her Vice-President, it is still a Democratic year, but when Americans decide they like you . . . that goes a long ways politically.

Obama must worry that Palin is the new Obama. He has been around and peaked in interest in February. He is now old news to many. Palin will not grow stale before the election.

If Obama does not get the subject changed from Palin, he can lose.
