The Soviet Union killed twenty-two million of its own people. Many of them died for the “crimes” of religion, class, and ethnicity.
Needless to say, if Senator Obama had a group play for him that usually opens with the anthem of that murderous regime, then he is guilty of extraordinary bad taste at the very least.
Even if the group normally plays this song, but did not play it this time, it shows bad taste to promote them. Regimes that kill millions are no better for having come from the left.
Why do so many on the left sport or mess with this Soviet era stuff?
It isn’t funny, ironic, or cool when survivors of the horrors of the Soviet Union see it. It is as distasteful, insensitive, and ugly as weird fascinations with other evil regimes.
Senator Obama should fire whoever did this horrific advance work, since it is difficult to believe the nominee of a major party in the US would want to promote turning the artifacts of one of the most murderous regimes of the twentieth century into pop culture fun.
