The Bad News in France and Is Anyone Watching Russia?

Western Europe is dying.

It is failing in the most basic way.

Europe is not having enough babies to sustain a population.

It faces an influx of Islamic persons many of whom (though not all) are not integrating with traditional national culture.

The most horrible outcome, though if history is any guide the most likely, has never been that France or other Western nations would simply slide quietly to oblivion.

The most terrible scenario is that some right-wing or left-wing tyrant would act now to attempt to preserve their nation using wicked means.

No Christian can tolerate this . . . but Western Europe has fewer real, traditional Christians than babies. What it does have are nations like France where a frightened majority can see minority status coming.

French politics are becoming more ugly . . . more fascist (I use that word carefully) and now it is being predicted that (once again) Jean-Marie le Pen might come in second.

This is a man that can hardly bring himself to condemn the Nazis.

I can only hope that this does not happen and that a real revival of traditional Christianity will come to France.

Any victory for the West over Islam cannot be won at the expense of Christian virtue.

It sounds so obvious it should not need saying, but despite our theological disagreements (which are real and serious) our Islamic neighbor is created in the image of God. He can be opposed in arguments, but not in ways that deny his rights as man . . . rights that cannot be taken away by any state because they come from God.

It would be better to lose in the short term (with hope that our witness would prevail in the marketplace of ideas) than to see le Pen racism triumph.

Meanwhile, I continue to worry about a decaying Russia which seems more and more likely to plunge into Brown-Shirt rule. Russia makes France look cheerful and stable.

Iran is a worry . . . it may become a nuclear power, but a tyrannical Russia is a major nuclear power now. Putin is no friend. When the best we can hope for is a Spanish style monarchy in Russia, things have gotten grim indeed.

Is anyone watching the rise of these brown-shirt types in Europe?

We need traditional, real conservatives in these nations who will vote against any party that denies basic human rights and liberty, but it is hard to see where they will be found.
