I pity poor Wolf Blitzer. He decided to turn an interview about a children’s book with Lynne Cheney into an attack, but then forgot to attack well. Check out the story at Hugh Hewitt. The best way to summarize the story is that the interview went this way:
Wolf: Here is a big charge! Respond!
Cheney: Can I talk about my book? If I must respond, then (insert factual and witty comment here).
Wolf: But here is a Democratic talking point! Respond!
Cheney: (sighs) Well, Wolf if only everything you said was not false, then perhaps I could respond to it.
Wolf managed to be both witless and rude to his guest. If you are going to attack your guest, then it is best to win. If you are going to lose, then it is best to be entertaining. Sadly, like much of CNN, Blitzer (who is better than this) ended up with a show that was humorless and without the grace of Cheney would have been dull.
